CHANGING PORTRAITS 2018
Changing Portraits is a theatrical boat trip about the hidden stories of Amsterdam's slavery and colonial history. Professional makers and amateur players work together and take a fresh look at history from the theme of “Changing Portraits”. Portraits of people from the 17th century to the present, prominent figures, but also people who have remained invisible are highlighted.
The tour takes in various locations in the historic downtown, with actors on board and from the docks bringing ancient stories to life with poetry, dance and music. A quest for our shared history, an encounter in stories.
Sites of Memory is a collaboration between Amsterdam Roots, Afrovibes, Poetry Circle Nowhere and Black Heritage Tours.
It was part of Amsterdam Roots Festival and We Make the City Festival. Thanks to: South Africa House.
